How Many Days Is It?

This is the question asked at least five times daily by my six-year old almost step-son about our impending trip to Colorado. Our first real family vacation as a blended family. Also would be our wedding trip. No added stress there.

The countdown started about 80-something days ago….so this has been a daily occurrence for a long time. Note to self: do not tell your kids about a trip three months in advance unless you are willing to be barraged on a daily basis.

And holy cow – we are now down to six days. Six days before we leave and ten days before I become Mrs. Fernandez, wife of Shane Fernandez, mother of Nicholas and step-mom of Jade and Tristan. I’m very glad we have co-habitated for a year first (sorry mom) as sort of a trial run….or I think I would be having a serious anxiety attack by now.

Not only am I trying to pack for five people for 12 days in Colorado – we also have a small little event thrown in there called a wedding. What started as a family-only simple ceremony has somehow turned into a slightly larger event. Oops. Planning a wedding long-distance is really not so easy. I’m at the mercy of people I don’t know – musicians backing out – picking out flowers online, helping everyone find lodging arrangements to writing our own vows. Oh crap! I better get those finished pretty darn quick.

We leave in six days. Driving with three kids for 14 hours. Anyone jealous? Anyone have any tips outside of drugging our kids for a relatively (relative being the operative word) stress free road trip? Because I have a feeling my six-year olds next question will be “how many more miles is it?” that will start before we even leave the city limits. May the force be with us.
