Do you ever surprise even yourself? Are you ever afraid of what you are capable of? Let me
explain…
I have two children, a 3YO daugther and a 1YO son. After the first child I started wearing my normal clothes within a few
weeks of having her. Let me clarify what I mean by “normal”. Normal to me is
nothing that constitutes worn holes, discoloration or all around evokes the “husband
don’t even look at me right now vibe”, like my beloved twelve year old grey
sweat pants.

Then, with my second child it took me a few months to start
wearing normal clothes again. I just recently found out that we are (wait for
it-now gasp) expecting number three. Three kids under the age of four! Yes,
completely terrified out of my very nicely colored haired mind. And guess what?
Those non-normal clothes I was telling you about YOU guessed it. Those puppies
are already out and being used with pride. I may never actually put them up again.
I have a feeling that number three will take five years before I recover and
get back into my normal clothes again. Maybe longer if my husband doesn’t burn
them first.
On a more serious note, I have the privilege of working with some really brilliant,
artistic people at Ihloff Salon and Day Spa. Our biggest annual event is the
Ihloff Creative Team Fall Show which takes place on November 10th at
the Tulsa Convention Center and benefits the Arts and Humanities Council of
Tulsa.
At the beginning of this show we showcase some of the makeovers that we have done on deserving recipients. This
is where you all come into play!
We would love for you to write a nomination for that woman in your life who always
puts others first and deserves to be the center of attention for once! It needs
to be a minimum of three sentences so we can hear your story. The winning woman
will receive a makeover from Ihloff Salon and Day Spa, which includes a brow
shape, hair color and cut and makeup application. (Yay! )
Our winner will then get to
strut their stuff on the runway in clothing provided by The Gap!

Hi! I was excited to see this “contest” on Marnie’s facebook page! I am a single (divorced) working mother of one sweet 7 year old boy. With the busy schedule of an elementary age child AND a full time job that requires some travel away from home (and my sweet boy), I have not taken the time to go to the salon in a very long time. I used to be a regular 6-8 week visitor to the salon for color and cut, but I have now gone months without. :(( Again, mainly the busy schedule contributes to that, but also with the recent sale of my home after divorce, which resulted in a major loss financially, I have been on a strict budget that just hasn’t allowed for the “me” time at a salon. I am not all that comfortable with posting for myself, but hey…….I thought “what the H-E-double”! Good luck to all the deserving mothers out there and thank you to Ihloff Salon and Marnie for this great event and opportunity. ❤

As much as I’d like to nominate myself, I have to throw my siser -in-law out there. She has 2 boys under age 3 with another one the way. She’s also running an at home daycare to make ends meet. She’s a selfless mom who never ever has time for herself, but you never ever hear a complaint from her (this is the life she’s chosen and she’s thrilled to be living it, tired, but thrilled). Hello, I would like to nominate the wonderful woman in my life. She is my wife, she means the world to me, she does thing that honestly would terrify me and most men in the world. Let me explain I am in the US Army and currently in training for my upcoming deployment. I would love to nominate my amazing Step-Mother Stephanie. After raising her two kids by herself working two jobs, she finally met and married my father. She happily took on four more children into her family. When my sister and I moved from our mothers house to live here in Oklahoma with my father she raised us as her own. She has gone above and beyond always putting her children first. She always used to say, “I love you all with all my heart, but I’m ready for my empty nest!”, we would all laugh. Well she finally got her wish. Shortly after after I; being the youngest, moved out of the house, she had a few short weeks to herself. My twin sister had her baby shortly after. She was sadly unable to care for him. My mother stepped up to the plate and took custody of him. For the last year she has started all over raising a new baby. I can’t even imagine how hard things must be for her. She deserves so much and even though she is not my mother by birth she is my mother my love. And I think she would be the perfect choice for this experience.
When I saw your spot on the news this morning, I knew instantly my sister Jill would be a great candidate for a makeover and some pampering!!
She’s a single mom now, who at age 35, is a 4 year breast cancer survivor raising 8 year old Peyton (the thoughtful rule follower) and 4 year old Lainey (the fearless daredevil). Lainey is as old as Jill is a survivor because she was 8 months pregnant when diagnosed – another story altogether!
Since then, she’s always on the run from her job as an elementary school teacher (God bless her) to choir, gymnastics, doctors’ appointments, or physical therapy. She has no budget for her own clothes or even contacts, much less hair and makeup. I’ve witnessed her days with no makeup, pigtails, and sweats, and while I say she’s still cute with that look, I know she would sooooooo appreciate a fresh look and is so very deserving for the fine job she’s doing raising and supporting those two wild women I’m proud to call my nieces!!!
I would like to nominate my daughter Lamia. She worked a job, went back to school, took care of her three children. Then just before she graduated there was a fire at her apartment. She is living with her in-laws and has not been able to find a job in the six months after her graduation. She could use a special treat while at the same time giving her a makeover to help her in her job search.
I would like to nominate a collegue of mine- not because she needs it but because she deserves it! Jeni is a single mom of 2 boys. She works in the office 40+ hours a week, then spends her evenings taking her boys to football, baseball, basketball, hockey and whatever other sports they play in the evenings. I beleive her day starts at 5 a.m. and ends at midnight. She deserves a little pampering and we would love to see her let her hair down every once in a while as opposed to the mommy ponytail or bun!
I have 2 adorable children that are well dressed and put together. I wonder do the pre-school teachers balk at turning over my super stylish daughter to the lady that looks like she slept outside? I love it when people comment on the length of my hair. No I did not intend to go over a year without a haircut it just seems like such a luxury , plus the 2 year old will probably just smear peanut butter in it anyway. My only comfort (other than these fabulous sweat pants) is knowing that many other moms in my exact situation will be lurking in the school hallways well hidden under baseball caps and big glasses. My friend Shawn should be your pic. She is an amazing mom of a college freshman, high school senior, fifth grade artist/fashion designer and apparently fastest 8 year old in these hear parts…all while battling the cruel disease of MS. Oh, and did I mention she’s a soccer coach, babysitter for everyone who asks and animal hoarder (but please don’t hold that part against her). I love her and think she’s B-E-A-UTIFUL…and want her to get the gift of feeling that way too!
I am going to nominate my mother.
Looking back at what she endured raising me and my 3 other siblings, I realized that she is not only one of the best moms in the world, but she’s just simply phenomenal.My mother’s love for us is unconditional, she put us first before anything else. She only had one goal in her life – give her children a better life.
My mother is going through a divorce right now where my father has just simply chose move on. Like their 27 years together meant nothing and this has hurt my mother. She has been trying her damnedest’s to keep our family together and the cards just didn’t have it in them for us. My father had lost his job a few years back and he couldn’t find a job in the state we were and still are currently living so therefore he had to travel out of state. He found a job in Georgia and started becoming more distant as the moths past. He eventually told my mother he wanted a divorce. To make a long story short he found a job in our old hometown in Illinois and starting working there. I haven’t seen my father in god knows how long 10 months maybe? It seems as though he has just simply moved on with this woman who apparently had been around for quite sometime. My mother has a expensive in our terms house payment to make and our home almost went into foreclosure because my father had been “unable” to send the same amount he was providing for the family when he lived here. So he had to withdraw money from his 401k. My mother is pretty much a single parent at this time trying to raise my 13 year old brother while maintaining her full time job. I know this is very hard and heartbreaking for her to not be able to spend quality time with my little brother due to her hectic work schedule ( She works at woodland Hills Mall) but I do what I can to help her out as much as possible when Im not working. I just think my mom is a fighter and so strong and she deserves to look beautiful! She’s never had her hair colored at a “real” salon because we’ve always been to poor she’s even had to resort to getting her hair cut at a beauty school because we had no money. I just want my mom to get her spunk back and feel like the beautiful woman she is! Actually be able to have and enjoy the whole “real” salon treatment and not just some box color treatment at home.
I am very lucky that my mother is still in this world to see the fruits of her labor even though she may not see it we may be struggling and barely getting by but I feel like the richest girl in the world because I have my family, my mother. I am thankful that I am still able to show her how much I care and love her, and how much I appreciate everything that she done for us.So please please please choose my awesome, beautiful, wonderful mother Ellen, I think it would mean the world to her to be treated like a queen for a change she deserves it 🙂
I would love to win a makeover! I turned 30 in April and would love to really get gussied up by some Aveda pros. I have two little boys who are 2.5 years old and 14-months old. I’m a licensed Realtor in Oklahoma, but have been a stay-at-home mom for the past year taking care of my little boys. I’m also in the process of turning my charitable group, Shower of Hope Oklahoma, into a non-profit 501(C)(3) charitable organization. This past spring and summer, my group reached out and helped families who were affected by the May 24th Oklahoma storms and tornadoes. But i found out the day of first meeting that my husband (27) is in the first stages of emphazima and his lungs are over inflated. My name is Angela Henshaw and I am a 37 year old mother of three wonderful children ages 20, 13, and 2. I am a stay at home mom and college student working to get my Bachelors in Heathcare Administration. I was always the girl that never left the house without makeup, my hair just right and the right outfit on. While I love my life and would not change it one bit, I would love to get back to the women I use to be. I have just somewhere lost my way. I usually wear jeans, a hoodie, my hair in a ponytail and no makeup. I usually color my own hair (Just cant accept the gray hair yet!) and go to the beauty school for my haircuts in order to save money for my children and their needs. I would love to have a makeover, to feel good about myself again, and to learn some tips to make it easier for me to get back to the old me again. I just want to wow my kids and husband by showing them the woman I was and can be again and get a little more confidence in myself for my new job search coming up.
